Wildflower “rescue mission” in Trafford’s woodlands!

Date: Tuesday 10th August 2004

Time: 11.30pm

Place: Trafford Ecology Park, Lake Road, Trafford

Red Rose Forest and Trafford MBC are arranging a special event just for the people of Trafford on Tuesday 10th August – to get them out on a ‘rescue mission’ saving some of the local areas most beautiful woodland wildflowers!

The event will take place at Trafford Ecology Park, from 11.30am – 2pm. It will involve a seed collection within the nearby woodland – taking flower seeds, which will then be replanted in a brand new Wildflower nursery that is being set up at the Ecology park. Here the seedlings will be protected until they are ready to be transferred to local woodland where flowers, like bluebells and foxgloves are less prominent. After the seed collection, there will also be a free buffet lunch for all involved.

This event is part of the Wildflower nursery project, which has set up wildflower nurseries across Greater Manchester, and helps local people to get involved with the life of their local woodlands.

Red Rose Forest is an environmental regeneration initiative in Greater Manchester and is one of 12 Community Forests being developed in England. We are a partnership of The Countryside Agency, the Forestry Commission and six Greater Manchester local authorities. The Red Rose Forest partnership is planting over 25 million trees across 292 square miles of the area, as part of a 40-year programme that will make Greater Manchester a greener and more satisfying place to live and work. At the heart of our strategy is the involvement of local communities in the environmental, social and economic regeneration of the area.
