RED ROSE FOREST PRESS RELEASE
Taxing Team Day Spells Great Returns for Wythenshawe Wood!
Workers from a top finance firm helped to streamline one of
South Manchester’s biggest assets, yesterday, thanks to the help of Greater
Manchester’s Community Forest.
PricewaterhouseCoopers’ team building event, jointly run by Red Rose Forest,
Greater Manchester’s Community Forest, and made possible by Business in
the Community, saw the Tax Returns department lending their hand to help improve
Princes Spinney in Wythenshawe.
Over the past few years the spinney has been transformed from a dumping ground to a beauty spot of regional importance thanks to the hard work of the Royal Oak Community Group and various other volunteers, with general maintenance conducted by Manchester City Council’s Operational Services.
And it is hoped that the wood will soon be good enough to become
a Site of Biological Importance (SBI), a national award with huge prestige.
Princes Spinney is a great example of semi-natural ancient woodland because
of the large amount of native Oak trees it contains and the fantastic variety
of animal and plant life this supports.
Red Rose Forest’s Sarah Macleod, said: “Everyone
worked really hard and we managed to get loads of work done. People seemed to
be really enjoying themselves.
“It’s great that the Business in the Community movement gave us
the chance to work with PricewaterhouseCoopers and we look forward to working
them in the future.”
