Moses Gate

The fun day is a great opportunity for the people of Bolton to celebrate National
Walking Day. All the events will be free and the day will give people the opportunity
to join in with a short health walk, as well as loads of great activities including;
a circus skills workshop, cycle taster sessions, kids craft activities and pond
dipping sessions.
This event is part of the ITV Britain on the Move Campaign, being held on National
Walking Day and will involve over a million people, nationally.
The Moses Gate event has been jointly organised by Red Rose Forest, Greater
Manchester’s Community Forest and Bolton Metro. The fun day intends to
raise awareness of Bolton’s Healthwalk scheme, Move It! will give people
the opportunity register with the scheme for free.
The health walks around Bolton's parks and green spaces were launched last June
by Bolton Council and the East Bolton Regeneration project.
They featured a series of specially chosen walks around the borough that can
be done as part of a guided event or alone.
Research shows that just being out in green, open spaces reduces heart rate,
relieves stress and makes people feel happier.
A council spokesman, said: "The health walks were launched last year as
part of our drive to promote physical exercise and wellbeing and are proving
to be successful. We are delighted to offer a summer walks programme to residents
across the borough.
"The walks are aimed at people who don't currently do exercise and are
led by trained leaders who will make sure everyone has a safe and comfortable
walking experience. They are completely free and we would encourage everyone
to go along and give them a try."
They are part of the Move It project, which is a partnership between Bolton
Council and the Primary Care Trust and funded by the Countryside Agency and
East Bolton Regeneration. It aims to increase local people's physical activity
levels through walking in order to gain the associated health benefits.
East Bolton Regeneration is a body working to improve the quality of life for
people in Breightmet, Tonge Fold, Tonge Moor, Hall i'th' Wood, Darcy Lever,
Haulgh and parts of Burnden.
Anyone interested in joining in is encouraged to wear something comfortable,
take a waterproof and something to drink.
