“Green Gym” comes to Salford!
Keep fit with an outside twist is a welcome break
to the drudge of traditional gyms

Starts

A strong partnership of organisations, working to enhance local communities in Greater Manchester are excited to announce today the launch of a ‘Green Gym’ in the Salford area – putting an environmental twist on the issue of getting fit.

Salford Council for Voluntary Service, Red Rose Forest, Greater Manchester’s Community Forest initiative and the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV) will be holding the first of its Green Gym taster sessions in Blackleach Country Park, (where exactly is the park?) on 10th August, at (? o’clock).

A range of environmental activities and conservation work will be organised, including (What is going on?) that will be a welcome brake from the treadmill or the rowing machine, whilst still getting you fit. The work will also see some real benefits for the local environment, so everyone who comes along to the Green Gym can see benefits beyond their bulging biceps when they next visit their area of local green space.

This is the first time that the Green Gyms have been brought to Salford, although the concept has proved extremely popular in other parts of the country, with over 50 Green Gyms being pioneered by BTCV. If the taster session on 10th August proves popular, Green Gyms could soon become a regular addition to area.

Notes to Editor

Salford CVS provides direct support to start up new community and voluntary groups, and strengthen existing groups in the Salford area. We speak out for the interests of the whole community and voluntary sector.

Red Rose Forest is an environmental regeneration initiative in Greater Manchester and is one of 12 Community Forests being developed in England. We are a partnership of The Countryside Agency, the Forestry Commission and six Greater Manchester local authorities. The Red Rose Forest partnership is planting over 25 million trees across 292 square miles of the area, as part of a 40-year programme that will make Greater Manchester a greener and more satisfying place to live and work. At the heart of our strategy is the involvement of local communities in the environmental, social and economic regeneration of the area.
(Extra notes to include: details of BTCV, details of Green Gyms, why has this partnership come about – is it for something else?)
