The
Capital Modernisation Fund (CMF) is a £9 million Government
grant, which has been split between 3 Community Forest areas,
Red Rose Forest, The Mersey Forest and Thames Chase in London.
Right
now, Red Rose Forest is using the money to buy areas of derelict,
underused and surplus land, which can be turned into Community
Woodland.
This
land is being leased to the Forestry Commission, who are helping
Red Rose Forest to work with local communities to create lush
green woodland for everyone to enjoy!
There
are CMF sites popping up all over the Red Rose Forest area, including:
•
Horrock Hill, nr Smithills, North Bolton
• Hurst Farm, Bury
• Barlow's Farm, Bickershaw, Wigan
• Higher Folds, nr Tyldesley, Wigan
• Viridor Woods, Bryn Gates, Wigan
• Windy Bank Farm, nr. Glazebury, Wigan
• Byrom Hall, Wigan
