Love grows on trees in Manchester

31 January 2011

Nature lovers in Manchester needn't feel stumped for a Valentine's gift this year. They can now impress the one they love by dedicating a tree to their sweetheart at local beauty spot Hurst Wood.

The Dedicate a Tree scheme is run by Community Forests North West, the charity that supports Red Rose Forest, The Mersey and Pennine Edge Forests.

For £15 lovers can dedicate a sapling in one of Red Rose Forest's stunning woodlands including local beauty spot, Hurst Wood. The trees come with a certificate - personalised with a chosen message, along with a map to find the woodland site.

As well as being a special gift, the donation will count towards creating acres of community woodland that will enhance the local area and in turn provide the perfect place for recreation and create a greener and healthier place to live.

Tony Hothersall, Director of Red Rose Forest says:

"Dedicating a tree is a fantastic Valentine's Day gift. Rather than giving flowers or chocolates, dedicating a tree is a gift with a real future and one that also has an array of environmental benefits. It's also a great excuse to get outside and go for a romantic walk in the woodland of your choice.

The North West is one of the least wooded landscapes in the whole of Europe, so by dedicating a tree you can help play a role in improving your local environment whilst showing your Valentine how much they mean to you."
